Lab Objective

You will be introduced to SQL Basics and SQL*Plus, how to access the relational databases through SQL and SQL *Plus. Materials necessary to the development of an Oracle 9i database will be covered.

You will learn to ...

  • understand Structured Query Language basics
  • extract and organize information from the database
  • insert, update & delete information in database tables
  • create and drop tables, views
  • program with PL/SQL, Pro*C

- Here is an Oracle Commands file and a reference file that will be very helpful for getting started with Oracle.
- Get familiar with the Airline Database above, you will work with it throughout the lab assignments and project.

- The due date of Assignment #2 has been postponed to 03/11/05 (Friday). Email the electronic copy of your code to mzhang@bioinfo.uh.edu before midnight and put the hard copy in my mailbox before the office closes (at 5PM).

Lab Policy

  • If you missed the lab, you are responsible to find out what you've missed from others.
  • Late work is acceptable up until the next lab time with 20% penalty, unless accompanied by a doctor's note.
  • Cheating is intolerable. You are responsible to do your own lab assignments.
